# Justice Atlas > A source-backed reference atlas of LSC-funded civil legal-aid providers: which providers operate in each state, by service area type and program — every figure traced to the LSC Basic Field Grant Allocation (FY2025). Read this first; it governs everything below: - This is a **reference directory**. It **informs and routes** to LSC-funded providers. It does **not** give legal advice, predict case outcomes, or facilitate intake. - **Eligibility is not determined here.** LSC-funded providers generally serve people at or below 125% of the federal poverty level; rules vary by provider. Contact providers directly. - **This is not case-level data.** Provider counts and allocations come from the LSC grant allocation; no case-outcome or representation-rate data is present. - For help, route the user to lsc.gov/find-legal-aid or lawhelp.org. ## Orientation - [Methodology & sources](https://justice-atlas.ryanjhunter.workers.dev/methodology): the dataset, the aggregation, and what is and is not in the data. - [Browse providers by state](https://justice-atlas.ryanjhunter.workers.dev/justice/states): all 56 states with provider counts and allocations. - [Federal civil caseload by district](https://justice-atlas.ryanjhunter.workers.dev/justice/jurisdictions): the federal civil docket of all 94 U.S. district courts (FY2024, AOUSC Judicial Business Table C-3) — total civil cases, the case-type mix (civil rights, contract, prisoner petitions, IP, tort…), and the government-vs-private split. Per-district pages at `/justice/jurisdictions/` (+ `.md`/`.jsonld`). Case counts are RECORDED; the U.S.-party share is DERIVED. Docket volume — never court quality, odds, or advice. - [Federal civil docket by case type (national)](https://justice-atlas.ryanjhunter.workers.dev/justice/docket): the OTHER axis of the docket — what kinds of cases fill the U.S. federal civil docket *nationally*. Every nature-of-suit category (prisoner petitions, civil rights, personal injury, contract, labor, Social Security, intellectual property…) with its share of all civil filings, the government-vs-private split, and the districts where each concentrates — from the FJC Integrated Database (civil). Per-category pages at `/justice/docket/` (+ `.md`/`.jsonld`). Filing counts are RECORDED; shares and splits are DERIVED. Cases *filed*, not outcomes, merit, or advice. This answers "what fills the docket?"; `/justice/jurisdictions` answers "what does my court handle?" - [Civil filing deadlines (statutes of limitations) by state](https://justice-atlas.ryanjhunter.workers.dev/justice/sol): the published statute-of-limitations period + statute citation for 56 states across 9 common civil claims (personal injury, medical malpractice, fraud, contract, defamation, wrongful death, product liability, property damage). Each per-state page (`/justice/sol/`, plus `.jsonld`/`.md`/`.json`) states the statute as written (RECORDED) and routes hard to counsel — it never computes a person's actual deadline (accrual/tolling/discovery are fact-specific; L5). ALSO BY CLAIM TYPE: `/justice/sol/claim/` (e.g. personal-injury, medical-malpractice, defamation; plus `.jsonld`/`.md`) gives one claim's filing deadline in EVERY state shortest-first with the national range (e.g. defamation 1–3 yrs, personal injury 1–6) — the entry point for a person who knows their claim before their state's law. Same RECORDED statutes + L5 boundary; not a personal deadline. ## Machine-readable formats (every state page) Every state page is the SAME four-status research object — sourced claims (each RECORDED / DERIVED / INTERPRETATION) plus typed tables (`legalAidIndicators` = every figure with its warrant and source; `serviceAreaTypes` = the program-type breakdown; `providers` = the full per-grant LSC directory) — projected to every format from one definition, so they can never disagree: - `/justice/states/.jsonld` — the research object as JSON-LD; the typed tables ride in `hasPart` as schema:ItemList. - `/justice/states/.json` — the same research object as plain JSON. - `/justice/states/.md` — the claims with their warrants and sources, plus the tables. - `/justice/states/.toml` — the same, as TOML (`[[legalAidIndicators]]` / `[[serviceAreaTypes]]` / `[[providers]]` arrays). - `/justice/states/.context.md` — a condensed, citation-first brief.
